The Country Club

One of the oldest courses in the US, and an original USGA course, The Country Club (“TCC”) in Brookline is a not-to-be-missed spot on any golf nut’s top-100 journey.  Interesting to note that the course has no official designer.  Members built the course over time and even today the 27 holes are played in different orders and combinations for various events and tournaments.

The course has a lot of quirk, in a good way.  Here is a view of a par 4 on the front where you have to clear a hill on your drive.  As Im a short and low hitter I had to take a 7-iron off the tee to clear it!

The natural terrain is beautiful and reminds me very much of another early American course, Chicago Golf Club.

Another quirky but cool element, is that the practice green comes right up to the first tee which has the unintended effect of making the first tee very social and fun.

The fescue frames the holes beautifully and provides nice color contrast with the lush green of the fairways.

I also loved the super old-school club house and locker room and here’s a photo of my lunch, homemade chicken fingers and a 1/2 a lobster roll – yum;

Here are some other really nice photos of our day:
